Prior to having direct contact with patients and other vulnerable individuals, students are required by hospitals and community agencies to obtain a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check (VSC).
This requirement must typically be renewed annually; however, some placement agencies may require renewal every 6 months depending on the clinical setting and program requirements.
Processing times vary significantly by police jurisdiction and may take up to 12 weeks or longer. Students are strongly encouraged to apply early to avoid delays in placement clearance.
Students are also required to carry a copy of their Police Record Check while attending clinical placement, as agency representatives may request verification at any time.
