Please review the following instructions carefully to complete your Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) application.
Application Deadline
Apply immediately after you have read and understood all the information provided.
Important: You must be physically present in Canada to apply for a VSS in the Durham Region.
Steps to Apply
1.Prepare your documents
Please have the following ready:
Two (2) valid pieces of identification (e.g., passport, Ontario Photo Card, driver’s licence, etc.)

2.Apply online
Complete your application using the Durham Regional Police online portal: https://rec-check.Durhampolice.ca/
3.Important notes about the online application process
To request a police record check online, please ensure you understand the following:
DRPS conducts name-based record checks. It is your responsibility to ensure your full legal name is entered accurately on the application, including all previously used names (e.g., maiden name, former legal names, aliases).
Incomplete or inaccurate information may cause delays.
Intentionally omitting, falsifying, or altering information is a criminal offence and may be subject to investigation.
If you require a police record check for a volunteer purpose and have a letter from the school or organization you are volunteering for, the police record check fee is $21.42 Please upload your letter when you apply. All taxes are included.
Results stemming from police record check (PRC) applications will be returned to you by mail via Canada Post. You will be notified via email once your PRC is complete.
4.Pay the fee
Fee: $21.42 CAD
VSS Waiver (Students Under 18)
If you are 17 years old or younger and unable to apply at this time, you may request a VSS Waiver.

As soon as you turn 18, you will be required to apply for a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS).
VSS Letter (If Requested)
If Toronto Police Services requests a placement/organization letter, please email clinicalrequirements@senecapolytechnic.ca

Postal code
Brief explanation of your request

Incorrect answers to authentication questions may delay your application.
Monitor your email and respond promptly to any police requests.
Delays in applying may affect your eligibility for clinical placement.
Your VSS validity starts from the issue date, not the application date.
