Hepatitis B is a viral infection that can lead to serious liver complications, including liver failure and liver cancer. In Ontario, the vaccine is provided free to Grade 7 students and has followed a two-dose schedule since 2000.
All students must complete a Hepatitis B titre test if they have not done so in the past. If the results do not indicate immunity, the student must consult their healthcare provider to develop an appropriate immunization plan. For adults who have never been immunized, the recommended schedule consists of three doses of the vaccine.
