Prior to having direct contact with patients and other vulnerable individuals, community agencies and hospitals require students to obtain a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check. This check must be renewed annually, and in some agencies, it may be required every 6 months. Processing times can vary significantly depending on the local police service, and may take up to 12 weeks or more, so students are advised to plan accordingly. Students are also required to carry their police reference check with them to the clinical area, as agency representatives may request to verify its validity at any time.
