BLS Provider certification is required annually, regardless of the expiration date indicated on the card. Students must complete a BLS course designed specifically for healthcare professionals. Fully online CPR courses are not acceptable; however, hybrid courses that include an in-person skills component are permitted.
Delivery:
Blended/hybrid - offers flexibility to complete the online component at the comfort of your home and attend the in-person session with your chosen date.
Instruction:
First time with no prior training - book SFA with BLS (DO NOT BOOK SFA with CPR-LEVEL C!)
For renewal with valid BLS - book SFA with CPR-Level C
For renewal with expired BLS - book SFA with BLS
Average time of completion: approximately 8 hours (blended)
Validity period: 1 year ONLY
Document/s required for clearance review: CPP Form page 6, Basic Life Support certificate.
Training providers often issue Standard First Aid (SFA) with Basic Life Support (BLS) as a combined certificate. Please note that a certificate of completion is not accepted; only official certification is valid.
Renewal time: every year, book your recertification date at least 30 to 60 days prior to expiry date or prior to clearance deadline whichever comes first.

Can I take online Basic Life Support?
Answer: No. Basic Life Support that is taken fully online is not accepted. Please ensure that you are taking your training at a valid and genuine training provider.
Can I use my Basic Life Support training from my workplace?
Answer: Yes, you can use your certificate from your workplace as long as it is not expiring during intended clinical term.
